Disney Skyliner: Soaring Through the Magic

The Disney Skyliner is Walt Disney World’s aerial gondola transportation system, offering guests a scenic, efficient, and downright magical way to travel between select resorts and theme parks. Since its debut in September 2019, the Skyliner has become a fan-favorite—not just for its convenience, but for the breathtaking bird’s-eye views it provides of the resort’s lush landscapes, glittering lakes, and iconic architecture.

Where Does It Go?

The Skyliner connects two theme parks and four resort hotels:

  • Theme Parks:
    • EPCOT (International Gateway entrance near World Showcase)
    • Disney’s Hollywood Studios
  • Resorts:
    • Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort (central hub)
    • Disney’s Riviera Resort
    • Disney’s Pop Century Resort
    • Disney’s Art of Animation Resort

The Caribbean Beach station acts as the central hub, where guests transfer between lines. The system is divided into three main routes:

  1. Caribbean Beach ↔ Hollywood Studios
  2. Caribbean Beach ↔ Riviera Resort ↔ EPCOT
  3. Caribbean Beach ↔ Pop Century ↔ Art of Animation

Travel Times & Efficiency

The Skyliner is surprisingly fast:

  • Caribbean Beach to Hollywood Studios: ~5 minutes
  • Caribbean Beach to EPCOT: ~12 minutes
  • Pop Century/Art of Animation to EPCOT: ~20 minutes (with transfer)
  • Riviera to EPCOT: ~9 minutes

Compared to buses, the Skyliner often wins in speed and comfort—especially during peak hours when road traffic can slow things down.

Design & Experience

Each gondola cabin is whimsically themed, featuring characters from Disney films like Frozen, Star Wars, Moana, and Guardians of the Galaxy. Inside, cabins seat up to 10 guests (or 6 with a wheelchair/ECV) on twin wooden benches. While there’s no air conditioning, the cabins are ventilated with passive airflow that keeps things surprisingly comfortable—unless the system stops mid-air, which can happen briefly during loading or weather delays.

The ride is smooth, but there’s a gentle sway when turning or slowing down. For those prone to motion sickness, sitting forward and avoiding looking down can help.

Accessibility & Boarding

Disney designed the Skyliner with accessibility in mind:

  • Separate stationary loading platforms for guests with mobility devices
  • Strollers under 30″ x 48″ can remain open
  • Cast Members assist with boarding and unloading

Weather & Closures

Because it’s an aerial system, the Skyliner closes during lightning storms or high winds. When this happens, Disney dispatches buses to cover the affected routes. It also undergoes annual refurbishments, typically in late January.

Fun Uses Beyond Transportation

The Skyliner isn’t just a way to get from point A to B—it’s a ride in itself. Guests often use it for:

  • Resort hopping: Grab a drink at Bar Riva (Riviera Resort) or explore the art-themed lobby at Art of Animation.
  • Dining adventures: Enjoy breakfast at Topolino’s Terrace or dinner at EPCOT’s World Showcase.
  • Scenic joyrides: Catch sunset views or even glimpses of fireworks from EPCOT.

  • Ride midday for shortest wait times
  • Use Caribbean Beach as your transfer point
  • Ask for a non-character cabin if you want unobstructed views
  • Bring a portable fan in summer, just in case of delays
