After nearly six months of refurbishment, Astro Orbiter has triumphantly reopened at Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland, bringing back its retro-futuristic charm and high-flying thrills. This classic spinner ride, perched atop Rocket Tower Plaza above the PeopleMover, has long been a visual and experiential centerpiece of Tomorrowland. A Brief History of Astro Orbiter
Astro Orbiter has a rich lineage dating back to Disneyland’s Astro Jets in 1956. Over the decades, the concept evolved through iterations like Rocket Jets and Star Jets, eventually becoming the Astro Orbiter we know today. The Magic Kingdom version debuted in 1994, replacing the original Star Jets from 1974. The 2025 Refurbishment
The ride closed on January 13, 2025, for a major overhaul. Disney completely dismantled the attraction, sending components off-site for maintenance and upgrades.
